My first band was a blues band, I was the guitarist, we covered some of this gentleman’s tunes, and he’s probably partially responsible for my weird strumming/picking accentuation:
I’ll post more Magic Sam later, he’s
one of the best.

The title is perhaps the worst pun ever, the crown is mine.
Listen to this live version of ‘Bring It On Home To Me’ by the master himself, Sam Cooke:
This song’s buildup/intro is by a man who knows the meaning of the word “foreplay”.

Hi, how was your weekend? I hope it was good and fun and that you avoided all the chores you were supposed to do. But if it wasn’t really fun, and you didn’t meet cool people, and you didn’t rock out to some live music, but you want to do all that fun stuff and end your nights feeling more like this girl with my guitar after our show on Friday:
Then you need to get out off your couch, away from your TV (and Facebook!), and catch some live music shows!
We had a blast playing at the Blue Moon in Seattle on Friday, and the Pig Bar in Olympia on Saturday, we met lots of really nice folks, danced around a bit, played some fun songs, and satisfied our souls with a bit of rock-and-roll.
But the thirst returns quickly, so…

I had a strange dream that mimicked the Clive Owen movie, ‘Children of Men’, but instead of a woman that was able to have a baby (in a world where a new baby hadn’t been born in a long time) as the catalyst for the story, it was that there was only one person alive who could still sing, and it was Aretha Franklin.
It might actually be true.

This is so good, I’m not sure if I’m posting it here to share it with you or to save it here for myself so I can always come back to it:
When I was in high school I had Wings Over America (my friends were all in to later grunge music, so my choice was a little weird) and played the fekk out of it, and this was one of my favourite songs on it. Anyway, I hope you dig it.

I use Spotify all the time, I think it’s cool that for a monthly fee ($10) I can have a huge catalog of music at my fingertips, and artists get paid for every listen. The interfaces is a bit klunky, but the convenience of having so much music in hand makes up for it. AND because it’s a streaming service, I don’t have to keep backing up hard drives of MP3s and trying to figure out what to fit on my iPod.
One of my other favourite things about Spotify is that artists (and therefore engineers, producers, designers, etc etc) get paid for the music that other people are enjoying, and even though right now they get paid very very little, there is promise that as more people sign on then the pay will scale more toward the artist’s favour.
This article from the Independent (thanks Phil!) has a little more info:
I remain skeptical of whether the artists will ever get their fair share, but at least it is better than people listening to music without giving a little bit of support back to the folks who put a lot of time and effort into making that music. Every little bit helps.
The moral of the story, keep listening to lots of music, and thank you for supporting independent artists!

PS. I’m on Spotify too, and you can listen to my music here, and I might even get a few pennies for it!: http://open.spotify.com/artist/5hwEiNPiEfXbGH1YQSClFt
