Writing Day

Today was a very satisfying day of songwriting.

I’ve been working on a bunch of new tunes, and it’s always so much fun to see where they lead to, it’s kind of like raising kids and watching them grow up.

I’m on a short break right now, clearing my head. Hopefully when I get back these kids will still be well-behaved.

Soul-Cancer

I feel pretty connected to the world and tons of information through the Internet, but yet I’m still completely out of touch with popular culture. It’s 2:30PM the day after the Super Bowl and I don’t know who won (except of course I know the corporate advertisers won, as usual). I have no idea what Gangnam Style is. I have never heard Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber, at least not to my knowledge. I hate the word “nom” when people are talking about eating. I’ve never seen a Kardashian.

I’m not sure if I avoid all of those pop culture things because I’m contrarian or because I think they might give me soul-cancer.

But even thinking about them makes me reach for an extra dose of anti-oxidants:

God’s Comic

No matter how much appreciation Elvis Costello gets as a songwriter, it will never be enough:

And then once he (never) gets enough songwriting accolades, I think we’d have to spend some time praising his voice also.

This song is from my favourite Elvis Costello album, ‘Spike’, which will probably never get me any respect amongst most in the Elvis Costello fan club, but I know what I like.

Enjoy!

Thank You Everett!

It was another good day to play rock-and-roll music. We had a fun show at the Everett Music Hall today, here’s a pic of Benjamin setting up his drums:

It’s fun when you get to play on a proper stage and have multiple tiers to jump around on, BJ refused to be a Solid Gold dancer though. I was shameless.

The audience in Everett was lovely and we made a bunch of new fans so we’re looking forward to getting back there.

Here is our upcoming show schedule:
